IDC Insights to Deliver Cross-Industry Predictions for 2012
Energy, Healthcare, and Government Industries Critical to Development of Intelligent Economy
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., November 28, 2011 – IDC Insights will kick off its Predictions 2012 series with a cross-industry focused Web conference on Monday, December 5th. This cross-industry discussion will focus, in part, on the prediction that three industries critical to the development of intelligent economies – energy, healthcare, and public transportation – will reach a tipping point in 2012.
In energy, new research from IDC Energy Insights shows that smart meter deployments in North America will peak in 2012-13, with over 30% of organizations already having a smart meter in place by the end of this period. In healthcare, IDC Health Insights predicts that the majority of U.S. providers will be using electronic health records by the end of 2012. And in 2012, IDC expects intelligent transportation systems will finally hit "critical mass."
"As predicted, 2011 laid the foundation for an intelligent economy and as we look ahead to 2012, deployment of technologies within three key industries that fuel an intelligent economy will reach peak adoption status," said Meredith Whalen, senior vice president, U.S. Insights and Vertical Markets Research. "As a result, we also anticipate an increase in the growth of smart city ecosystems to support this industry transformation."
The IDC Insights Predictions 2012 series of industry-focused Web conferences will begin with a cross-industry discussion, IDC Insights Predictions 2012: Cross-Industry Overview, to be held on December 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., U.S. Eastern time (16:00 GMT). Moderated by Meredith Whalen, the event will feature the Research Vice Presidents of the six Insights business units: IDC Energy Insights, IDC Financial Insights, IDC Government Insights, IDC Health Insights, IDC Manufacturing Insights, and IDC Retail Insights.
