Senior Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Enterprise Applications Research

Alan Tong is a Senior Research Manager, for IDC's Enterprise Applications program for the Asia/Pacific region. This program sizes and forecasts market growth for the software markets in the region. IDC examines key packaged software vendors and their respective market shares in each country and their software strategies.

Mr Tong's primary focus is with packaged software solutions such as Enterprise Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management and Supply Chain Management. He provides in-depth analysis, forecasts and competitive data for the various segments of the market to identify trends for key software applications. He works with software vendors on a regular basis in his researches to determine the software developments in this region. Also, he has been engaged in a number of occasions to speak in the areas of ERM and CRM at software vendors events like customers conference and product promotion.

Prior to joining IDC in July 2000, Mr Tong spent four years in Business Development within the IT industry and two years in the transportation and logistics industry as a Market Analyst.

Mr Tong holds a bachelor degree in Commerce and Marketing from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

As companies move towards an eBusiness environment, the exchange of information is essential for the various partners in the business community. The whole value chain no longer focuses on supply side but also includes the customers as a vital contributor. With a focus on collaboration of information between the community members, PIM application provides the necessary tools for manufacturers to share the design data with their users.
