Overview
This IDC Retail Insights Perspective is a companion to Perspective: Improving Collaboration with Big Data, Mobile, and Social in the Brand-Oriented Value Chain (IDC Manufacturing Insights #MI239210, January 2013) — which offers a look at collaboration between retailers and consumer goods (CG) manufacturers through the economic lens — and Perspective: Improving Supplier-Retailer Collaboration with Big Data, Mobile, and Social (IDC Retail Insights #GRI239528, forthcoming). This Perspective presents our view of the current state of collaboration between CG manufacturers and retailers, focusing on some of the areas where we see the greatest inflection points for collaboration among retailers and CG manufacturers. These include a focus on product quality by CG manufacturers and the desire for retailers and manufacturers alike to optimize sourcing and logistics.
