Overview
This IDC Retail Insights Perspective isolates an aspect of the recent IDC Retail Insights' Supply Chain Survey for apparel retailers. According to survey results, apparel retailers (including apparel, footwear, and accessories) predominantly identify their supply chains as service focused, and the top priorities for their supply chains over the next 12 months center around improving customer service and reducing supply chain costs.
Both these priorities can be facilitated with retail PLM solutions, and we are seeing a trend by PLM vendors toward adding collaborative functionality to support retailers' top priorities. This Perspective offers some concrete examples of vendors' offerings in the collaborative aspects of retail PLM (which, in our definition, includes sourcing). It concludes with some recommendations for apparel vendors when considering how to develop collaborative supply chain capabilities.
