Overview
This study examines a self-checkout (SCO) implementation in the Russian retail market. After a quick overview of the Russian retail environment, it looks at how a well-known international chain worked closely with an SCO provider to find an unusual solution for its outlets, as well as the implications of long-term SCO development in the Russian market.
"Self-checkout is inevitable as the retail market heats up. The Russian supermarket subsector may still be developing, but it is developing fast, and competition is fierce. Chains and outlets that can rapidly adopt best practices will have the advantage in the medium to long term. SCOs are a case in point – stores deploying them now will have the kinks and details worked out when they become a required part of any supermarket." – Research Analyst Natalia Vinogradova, IDC Russia/CIS
